<p>One of Roberta’s top priorities is to help identify and pursue additional funding sources for the South Lake County Fire Protection District. The district serves a large and challenging response area, and its costs continue to rise as emergency calls, equipment needs, staffing demands, and wildfire preparedness responsibilities grow. Recent state support has helped local fire agencies obtain critical equipment, including funding for a new water tender for South Lake County Fire, but long-term sustainability will require continued advocacy and a broader funding strategy.</p><p>Roberta will work to find ways to bring additional revenue into the district, especially to address the cost of responses outside the county. At present, those responses can leave local community members subsidizing services that benefit areas beyond the district’s tax base. Roberta believes that South Lake County residents should not be expected to shoulder those costs without fair reimbursement or outside support. She will work with district leadership, county partners, state representatives, and neighboring agencies to explore reimbursement agreements, grant opportunities, state allocations, and other funding mechanisms that better compensate the district for the services it provides.</p>

<p><strong>Roberta will seek additional revenue</strong> to cover out-of-county responses now subsidized by local residents. <p>Roberta also recognizes that wildfire safety must remain at the center of the district’s work. Lake County has experienced some of the most severe wildfire impacts in California, and communities served by the district—including Middletown, Cobb, and Hidden Valley Lake—continue to face serious risk from extreme wildland fire. Reducing that risk requires more than emergency response; it requires prevention, education, defensible space, fuel reduction, and coordinated community planning.</p><p>That is why Roberta will work closely with the South Lake Fire Safe Council and the Lake County Fire Safe Council to support projects that make neighborhoods safer. The South Lake Fire Safe Council has long worked to help residents reduce wildfire hazards through education, fuel reduction, shaded fuel breaks, and chipping programs, while the Lake County Fire Safe Council serves as a countywide convener for wildfire resilience planning and collaboration. Roberta will support stronger coordination among these groups, the fire district, CAL FIRE, county officials, community organizations, and residents so that South Lake County can compete for grants, expand mitigation projects, improve preparedness, and reduce hazards before the next major fire occurs.</p>

<p><strong>Roberta will work closely with the South Lake Fire Safe Council and the Lake County Fire Safe Council</strong> to support projects that make neighborhoods safer. By strengthening coordination among these councils, the fire district, CAL FIRE, county officials, and residents, Roberta will help South Lake County improve preparedness, and reduce wildfire hazards.</p>
